UNESCO Campus

Decoding the world to reimagine tomorrow

Understanding contemporary issues and becoming an agent of change

Since its creation UNESCO serves its purpose to support global access to education, in order to achieve its mandate to build peace through international cooperation in education, sciences and culture.

UNESCO launched the Campus programme to help young people develop a better understanding of key contemporary issues and their role as young citizens.

Owing to the knowledge of various speakers from UNESCO and the civil society, experts in their fields (technology, education, sciences, …), UNESCO Campuses want to face nowadays challenges with students from colleges and high schools through the format of a horizontal and open discussion.

Empowering Youth for Forests Conservation: Five Indigenous Chefs Joins 800 Young Students from Paris and Ile-de-France

In an outstanding gathering centered around forests and environmental conservation, UNESCO House served as the distinguished venue for a momentous event featuring 5 representatives of indigenous communities who live in the heart of the world's last 5 primary forests. The occasion revolved around a special screening of the film-documentary "Canada - The Way of the Ancestors", episode of the "Guardians of the Forest" series on ARTE tv. The premiere was followed by a rich exchange between the students and the indigenous leaders on the impact of deforestation, the livelihoods of their communities, the symbolic value and cultural significance of the forest, and the importance of indigenous knowledge in fighting against climate change.

FAQ

Thanks to UNESCO Campus, students from all over the world can interact with international experts from UNESCO and civil society, by asking them their questions directly.

Following each Campus, you will receive a resource pack (videos, publications, teaching kits, etc.) to help you deepen your classroom learning.

  • Campus: Take place at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris. These events come in two formats:
    • Campus: In groups of 300, students from the Grand Paris area come together to discuss a topical issue with experts for two hours.
    • Campus XL: Over 600 students attend a screening in the morning, followed in the afternoon by a discussion with the film team and experts on the subject (plan for a full day).

  • Online Campus (or digital campuses): Several schools from around the world spend two hours discussing a contemporary issue with experts in the field.

  • MasterClass: Since 2023, these have enabled educators, teachers and educational managers to discuss with experts concrete examples of good practices to be put in place in their schools: How can we protect the environment at school? How can I raise my pupils' awareness of ocean protection?
  • If you are a teacher, you can register your secondary school class to take part in a UNESCO Campus. You can take part in the Campuses at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris or in the online Campuses. The Campuses are designed for secondary school classes aged 14 to 18 and are open to all, regardless of geographical location.

  • If you are a teacher or educational staff member, since 2023 you can take part in MasterClasses.
