Mr Yasin Omer Hamza holds a master’s degree in Ethiopian Literature and Folklore as well as a bachelor’s degree in Foreign Languages and Literature, with an English major. Since graduation in 1985-1986, he has served as an English language teacher for 17 years. At the Ethiopian National Archives and Library Agency (ENALA), he has conducted three field researches on the folkloric and cultural aspects of Wolayitta Meskel; Borena cultural wedding ceremony and Ashendaye in Mekele. He has published his findings in a magazine entitled Folklore. Moreover, he has presented a number of research papers to be published in different magazines and bulletins. Presently, he is working at the Ethiopian Intellectual Property Office (EIPO) as Copyright and Community Knowledge Study, Registration and Promotion Team Leader. Most of the time, he is engaged in giving awareness raising trainings for copyright and related right owners and traditional knowledge holders who are residing both in Addis Ababa and different regional states. He is serving as a liaison officer between EIPO and WIPO and facilitates the establishment of the IP Start-Up Academy in Ethiopia. He has attended the following distance courses organized by WIPO and received electronic certificates for all: General Course on Intellectual Property (DL 101); Advanced Course on Copyright and Related Rights (DL 201); Advanced Course on Intellectual Property, Traditional Knowledge and Traditional Cultural Expressions (DL-203); and Advanced International Certificate Course on Intellectual Property Asset Management for Business Success Based on the IP Panorama Toolkit and the DL 450-IP Management Course.
