Implementing the 2005 Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions in Northeast Asia
From 20-22 June 2017, a consultative Meeting on the 2005 Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions in Northeast Asia will be organized in Qingdao, China. The meeting is jointly organized by the UNESCO Beijing Office, the Secretariat of the UNESCO 2005 Convention and the National Commission of the People’s Republic of China for UNESCO.
The meeting will serve to present an overview of the 2005 Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions, now ratified by 145 Parties, and explain the benefits of ratifying the 2005 Convention
Experts from countries participating (People’s Republic of China, Japan, Republic of Korea, Mongolia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Philippines Samoa, Thailand, Timor-Leste) will discuss policies and measures to support creative sectors.
Focus will be put on the importance of information sharing through periodic reporting and the dissemination of the 2015 Global Report “RelShaping Cultural Policies: A Decade of Cultural Expressions for Development”.
Charles Vallerand, facilitator from the Expert Facility of the UNESCO 2005 Convention, will moderate discussions on the review of policy areas designed or implemented to address issues such as: digital technologies, public service media, participation of civil society, culture and sustainable development, International cooperation.
