The Government of Timor-Leste established municipal cultural section in 2008, with responsibilities on conducting following activities;
1. Data Collection of Cultural Objects in Municipalities; and
2. Holding Cultural Events in Municipalities;
The program of data collection of cultural objects is directly conducted by the State Secretary for Art and Culture. The municipal cultural officers are in charge to identify de cultural objects and artistic expressions based on the guidelines of the State Secretary for Art and Culture, in cooperation with a wide range of entities such as; civil society organizations, community and traditional leaders, on promoting the diversity of cultural expression from the local to national and international level, to enable cultural development flow in the future.
In addition, the municipal cultural officers also play an important role in coordinating the municipal cultural event activities (Details; Goal 2 Policies and measures to support the inward mobility of artists and cultural professionals).
The establishment of cultural section in municipalities contributed to the following events:
1. National festival of Culture (Details; Goal 2 Policies and measures to support the inward mobility of artists and cultural professionals);
2. Regional festival;
3. Ramelau Festival (Details; Goal 2 Policies and measures to support the inward mobility of artists and cultural professionals); and
4. National festival of the National Cultural day of Timor - Leste (details; Goal 2 Policies and measures to support the inward mobility of artists and cultural professionals).
