Panel Discussion on Ending impunity for crimes against journalists: strengthening implementation and the case of women journalists, at UNHQ in New York

To mark the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists, UNESCO, the Permanent Mission of Greece to the UN, together with the New York Group of Friends on the Safety of Journalists, are holding an interactive panel discussion at UN Headquarters in New York on 2 November 2017. This discussion will bring together various stakeholders, including Member States, UN agencies, civil society, NGOs, journalists, academics and students.

The discussion will specifically focus on the safety of women journalists, who face increasing and specific threats while doing their job. The issue of ensuring the safety of women journalists will be discussed within the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals. Panelists include Ms Maria Theofili, permanent representative of Greece to the UN, Mr Frank La Rue, UNESCO Assistant Director-General for Communication and Information, and several prominent journalists, NGO representatives and academics.
