Yamana Zedan is a 24 year old student from Damascus. During the second year of her economics degree at Damascus University she learnt about the Chevening Scholarship which is funded by the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office, and begun to prepare herself as a candidate. For the next two years she studied late into the night to get her English and other academic credentials up to standard. Her hard work paid off, and this year she travelled to Beirut with her best friend and aced the interview, winning the scholarship and a place on a Social Development Practice Masters degree at University College London. Yamana has volunteered as a teacher with IDPs in Syria, and is dedicated to enabling those less fortunate than herself to pursue their education.
