Le Tarikh-e-Khandan-e- Timuriyah relate l’histoire des Timourides, c'est-à-dire de Timour et de ses successeurs en Iran et en Inde. Ce manuscrit richement illustré a été écrit et créé pendant les 22 ans de règne de Jalaluddin Mohammad Akbar, grand empereur Moghol et descendant de Timour, en 1577-78 apr. J.-C. Les Moghols ont exercé une grande influence sur la vie sociale, culturelle et économique du peuple indien, mais aussi du monde entier. Ils ont apporté une contribution sans précédent à l’évolution de l’astrologie, de l’astronomie, de la médecine, des beaux arts, de l’architecture, de la peinture et de la littérature. Les peintures du Tarikh-e Khandan-e Timuriyah sont des exemples uniques qui illustrent le haut niveau artistique atteint par les Moghols dans l’histoire de la peinture.
